Greenly Soaps!

Posted by Katy Thomson on

We formulated our recipe to make a cleansing soap, with thick creamy lather and fluffy bubbles. Below are the ingredients, and the reasons we use them:

Coconut Oil is a super cleansing oil  that produces big, copious bubbles. It is so good at cleansing that it can be drying, which is why we use....

Shea Butter which is incredibly moisturizing.  We use Certified Fair Trade Shea Butter from Baraka Shea Butter, a small Canadian company. Baraka Shea Butter is hand-made by women and families from Kperisi village in Northern Ghana using age-old traditional methods. No chemicals, no harsh industrial processes, just the same traditional methods as they have used for millennia. And...

Olive Oil which makes a very mild, cleansing bar of soap, it is gentle and loving to skin, but you won't get much lather,  which is why we use....

Castor Oil because it creates a creamy lather and...

Avocado Oil which produces a medium lather and has mild cleansing properties. Avocado oil contains a high amount of unsaponifiables (parts of the oil that remain the same, without being affected by the oil becoming soap), which makes it a great choice for superfatting soap.  And to make a very hard bar we use ...

Responsibly Sourced Palm Oil. Please note: We are aware of the devastation that is caused by the irresponsible harvesting of palm oil which is why all of our palm oil is certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO) which is produced by palm oil plantations which have been independantly audited and certified to comply with  the RSPO - Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil Standard.

Additives:

Exfoliants: Pumice powder, Poppy Seeds and Coffee grounds for exfoliation. Kaolin Clay for "slip" to help the soap glide across the skin and to help with the creaminess of the lather.

Colour: For our brightly coloured soaps we use a variety of cosmetic grade, ethically sourced micas. Those micas are coloured using synthetic pigments to create the vibrant hues in our soaps and are the same types of micas that are used in many cosmetics. We also use annatto seed, indigo, and other botanicals as well as French Green Clay and Rose Kaolin

Scents: Our soaps are scented with either Essential Oils, or Lab created Safe Synthetic Fragrance oils. We ensure that all of our fragrance oils are both Phthalate and Paraben free.
